Meet the members of the Fablab

Fabio Manfredini

Johanna Yourstone

Fabio Manfredini

Fabio is an evolutionary ecologist interested in the evolution and regulation of behaviour in insects. Fabio is the FABLab group leader and since 2020 holds a position as Lecturer in Functional Genomics at the University of Aberdeen.

Jane Devlin

Johanna Yourstone

Fabio Manfredini

Jane is a PhD student leading the project "Novel use of remote and molecular monitoring tools to study plant-pollinator interactions in fruit crops" funded by the Centre for Doctoral Training in Plant Sciences at UoA in collaboration with the James Hutton Institute in Dundee.

Johanna Yourstone

Johanna Yourstone

Johanna Yourstone

Johanna is an Independent Research Fellow whose work focuses on exploring the implications of coexistence between wild and managed pollinators in the Hebrides. Johanna won a prestigious Wenner Gren fellowiship that has allowed her to join the FABLab from Sweden.

Lauren Dingle

Nathanael Johannesen Litlekalsøy

Johanna Yourstone

Lauren is a reserch technician in the School of Biological Sciences at UoA and supports the FABLab for activities involving molecular work, behavioural assays with honeybees and microscopy. Lauren is also involved with the training of new members of the FABLab.

Nathanael Johannesen Litlekalsøy

Nathanael Johannesen Litlekalsøy

Nathanael Johannesen Litlekalsøy

Nathanael (Nate) is a PhD student leading the project "Predicting the ecological impacts of invasive alien insects at multiple levels: from genes to communities". This project is funded by QUADRAT NERC DTP in collaboration with Queen's University Belfast.

Simon Loughran

Nathanael Johannesen Litlekalsøy

Nathanael Johannesen Litlekalsøy

Simon is a PhD student leading the project  "The evolution of the honeybee waggle dance: a population genomics approach". Simon works remotely from sunny Somerset and part-time. He's also the founder of runbundle a resource for runners of all abilities.

Tegan Gaetano

Aina Ortiz Azorin

Tesni Houlston

Tegan is a PhD student leading the project  "Importance and sustainability of endangered communities of bee pollinators in the machair, a changing coastal ecosystem", a CASE partnership funded by NERC QUADRAT and the Bumblebee Conservation Trust and involving Queen's University Belfast.

Tesni Houlston

Aina Ortiz Azorin

Tesni Houlston

Tesni (Tess) is a PhD student leading the project "Identifying the link between viral infections and foraging behaviour in the honeybee brain". This project is funded by the East of Scotland Bioscience Doctoral Training Partnership (EASTBIO).

Aina Ortiz Azorin

Aina Ortiz Azorin

Aina Ortiz Azorin

Aina joined the FABLab as a Honours student during the final year project and stayed for a Master to perform reserach on investigating the effect of competition at the gene expression level between commercial honey bees and wild bees in a Mediterranean island.

Szymon Szymański

Szymon Szymański

Aina Ortiz Azorin

Szymon joined the FABLab as a Honours student during the final year project and stayed for a Master to perform reserach on "The link between learning performance, the GABAergic pathway and deformed wing virus in the mushroom bodies of naturally infected honey bees".
